Here's something I tell first-time homebuyers: Your first home doesn't have to be your forever home.
A lot of buyers get caught up looking for the perfect house—the perfect neighborhood, the perfect kitchen, the perfect amount of space. Sometimes, that can keep people from buying anything at all.
Your first home should be a home that fits your life and your budget today. Maybe it's a smaller house. Perhaps a Home that needs a little work? Maybe it's not in the neighborhood you eventually want to live in forever.
That's okay.
Over time, your situation may change. Your income may change. Your family may grow. And eventually, you may sell that first home and move into something that better fits your future.
The important thing is to make a smart decision—not a perfect one.
After 40 years in real estate, I've seen many homeowners start with a modest first home and eventually move into the home they really wanted.
So if you're a first-time buyer, don't feel like your first home has to be your last home.
Start where you can, buy within your means, and build from there.
